Through their corruption and ethnicist politics, the country's elites are plunging South Sudan into a new abyss of violence. Since its separation from Sudan in July 2011, the country has only experienced civil wars, of varying intensity. For the past eight months, Riek Machar, the vice-president, has been appearing in court on several charges such as crimes against humanity, rebellion and treason.

Lecornu 2 is a pure Macronist government, made up of technocrats, former Macron advisors, and also those under criminal investigation: Rachida Dati from the Culture Ministry soon to be tried for corruption and influence peddling; Vincent Jeanbrun, Minister of Housing, accused of favoritism in the allocation of housing to relatives.

President Donald Trump is trying to reassert U.S. global dominance, leading to a greater threat of wars that could endanger what little stability remains in international relations.

Ukraine is still resisting heroically Russia's imperialist war of annexation. Hopes had been placed on the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska for a ceasefire.
