Oil Speaks Loudest: Environmental backsliding and the limits of Brazil's energy transition

1 mois 1 semaine ago

“The recent decision by Ibama (the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources) to grant the state-controlled oil company, Petrobras, an environmental licence for exploratory drilling along the Equatorial Margin, near the mouth of the Amazon River, represents a huge step backwards for the country's environmental and energy policy. It shows that the logic of fossil fuel-based development continues to dominate within the Brazilian state, something that we urgently need to overcome.”

The United States Prepares for War on Venezuela

1 mois 1 semaine ago

The United States is preparing for war against Venezuela. While President Donald Trump has asserted that the country's goal is to stop shipments of Venezuelan drugs to the United States, in private conversations U.S. officials have made it clear that Secretary of State Marco Rubio plans to remove Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. This forms part of Trump's goal of reasserting U.S. domination in Latin America such as it exercised in the nineteenth century by gunboats and in the twentieth century by installing friendly governments.

The return to slavery will not pass in Greece!

1 mois 1 semaine ago

On 1st October 1, a general strike was called in Greece by the GSEE (single private sector confederation), ADEDY (public sector federation) and many other federations and unions. It was very popular and focused on the rejection of a monstrous bill: allowing a13-hour working day for the same employer (we know that many Greeks have long been reduced to having two jobs).

Millions Protest Trump in Defense of Democracy and Social Justice

1 mois 2 semaines ago

Millions of people in 2,600 cities in all 50 of the United States participated in the second round of “No Kings” protests against President Donald Trump's increasingly authoritarian and inhumane government. I was one, marching in a labor union contingent in New York City. The organizers claimed that at least seven million of us marched and rallied across America, which would make it the largest protest in U.S. history.

Trump Tariffs Threaten Brazil: Pushing for Regime Change

1 mois 2 semaines ago

U.S. IMPERIALISM IS reaching a new level under Trump's second administration. Amid the instability of the U.S. economy and its global power, the American president is pursuing an openly aggressive foreign policy, combining threats, acts of aggression, and distancing the United States from multilateral bourgeois institutions that it once helped create.

From the "12-day war" to the NATO and EU summits: A leap forward in militarisation, under the orders of Trumpism

1 mois 2 semaines ago

NATO's joint declaration, signed on June 25 at its meeting in The Hague, shortly after the 12-day war against Iran, confirmed the subordination of the European powers—led by Great Britain, Germany, and France—to the Trumpist strategy of remilitarising Europe within a global framework of inter-imperialist competition and the Transatlantic bloc's shared responsibility for the genocide that the State of Israel continues to perpetrate against the Palestinian people.

Hamas After 7 October: Resistance and Challenges

1 mois 2 semaines ago

Following Ismail Haniyeh's assassination by Israel in Tehran on 31 July 2024 he was succeeded as head of Hamas' political bureau for the whole movement by Yahya Sinwar, who had led Hamas' political bureau for the Gaza Strip since 2017. According to Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas official in Beirut, speaking to al-Jazeera, this choice was adopted ‘unanimously'. Sinwar himself was killed by Israeli occupation forces, apparently unaware of his identity, on 17 October 2024.

Thousands take to the streets of Peru following the fall of yet another government

1 mois 2 semaines ago

The fall of Dina Boluarte from the Peruvian presidency was driven by Fujimorism and its reactionary allies in parliament. Congress decided to remove the president from office a few months before the presidential elections, scheduled for 12 April 2026. The controversial president of Congress, José Jerí, took over the presidency.

Agent Orange, a slow violence that still kills

1 mois 2 semaines ago

The Vietnam-Dioxin Collective is part of a decolonial ecology since the cause is not only ecological but is also the result of colonial and imperialist logics and of a capitalist system that produces environmental crises (which are in fact continuous) and wars in times of crisis. We demand justice for the victims of Agent Orange, a chemical and defoliant weapon used during the US-led Imperial War in Vietnam.

Andreas Kloke (1953-2025)

1 mois 2 semaines ago

Our comrade Andreas Klocke, with whom we were active in what was then the only group in the Greek section of the Fourth International, died at the beginning of October, greatly weakened by a very long illness following a complex operation. In recent years, as far as his strength allowed, Andreas continued to be involved in observing and analysing what could advance a revolutionary crisis.
