I strid med folkeretten angreb USA den 3. januar Venezuela. Angrebet medførte bombardementer af tætbeboede områder i millionbyen Caracas og har kostet mindst 100 mennesker livet, herunder flere civile. Angrebet følger oven på flere måneder, hvor USA har dræbt over 100 civile i farvandene ud for Venezuela og Colombia.

USA’s militære aktion mod Venezuela og kidnapningen af præsident Maduro har allerede påvirket det globale oliemarked. Den olie, som Kina har betalt for, omdirigeres nu til USA.

I den anden runde i det chilenske præsidentvalg vandt José Antonio Kast over den progressive kandidat Jeanette Jara (58 mod 42 procent). Når Kast bliver indsat som præsident den 11. marts, bliver han den første præsident fra det yderste højre siden 1990.

She was 76 years old and the life partner of Michael Löwy, the French-Brazilian Marxist sociologist and philosopher. Both were contributors to AGAINST THE CURRENT and good friends of its sponsoring organization, Solidarity.

The facts will tell if the situation evolves towards a stage of national liberation.”
